The Two Faces of Thailand

by | Jul 13, 2018 | Charisma Archive

Thailand is a nation where only 1 percent of the population is Christian! You have an opportunity to change that statistic.

Thailand is a breathtakingly beautiful kingdom in Asia and is a land of sharp contrasts. On the one hand, you are greeted with the warmest smiles and hospitality and surrounded by tropical beauty. On the other hand, you witness deep and dark issues like poverty, human trafficking, drug trafficking and prostitution that have plagued this nation for years and can be only resolved by the light of Christ. If these issues are close to your heart and if God has called you to take the Great Commission to Asia, you can be a part of this important mission Nov. 30-Dec. 10, 2018!

World Missions Alliance has a unique open door in Thailand to work in the famous Golden Triangle, in the mountains of Northern Thailand, with the hill tribe, the most oppressed and vulnerable people group in the nation.

A 2013 article in the Bangkok Post said that “nearly a million hill peoples and forest dwellers are still treated as outsiders—criminals even, since most live in protected forests. Viewed as national security threats, hundreds of thousands of them are refused citizenship although many are natives to the land.”

Here are some recent statistics about the hill tribe people and Thailand:

  • The average hill tribe person lives on less than $1 U.S. a day—this is 12 times less than what an average Thai citizen lives on.
  • Many Thai schools do not accept hill tribe children, and in cases where they do, the children are given little support with the costs of schooling and materials.
  • 1 of every 3 sex workers in Chiang Mai (Thailand’s second biggest city) comes from a hill tribe family.

We have an opportunity to reach out to these people in the northernmost city of Thailand, Chiang Rai, and work with local churches, orphanages and the drug rehabilitation center.

We need preachers, teachers, counselors and those who feel called to women’s ministry to be able to minister love, forgiveness and hope.

Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are needed for the medical clinics to be held for the hill people who can’t afford medical care otherwise. Medical clinics are an excellent opportunity not only to meet physical needs but also introduce hill people to the healing power of Christ.

Chiang Rai today is known as a lovely and quiet destination to explore the beautiful nature, authentic Thai foods and the lifestyle of the native tribes. But in the 1970s, it was part of the Golden Triangle, the drug trade and the home base for drug lords.

We need strong prayer warriors and intercessors on the team to pray over the area and bring down generational strongholds in the spiritual realm.

Seventeen days after we left Chiang Rai, twelve boys and their soccer coach were trapped in the flooded caves in the mountains just outside the city. The whole world watched in amazement the spectacular rescue that took 18 days and the miraculous survival of the entire group!
We see this miracle as God’s promise to the entire nation of Thailand – ” I will rescue you, I will save you, I will protect you”

Messianic Rabbi: He That Has an Eye, Let Him Hear

It is interesting that, as a Messianic rabbi the question I am asked most often by Christians is if I believe that they as Christians have to celebrate, or observe, the biblical Holy Days. They are usually asking about those days listed in Leviticus 23: Shabbat, Yom...

How the Holy Spirit Is Preparing America

As the crackdown against Christianity in America grows, it is a cycle believers have seen before. While no one celebrates their religious freedom coming under attack, God has used this persecution to great effect throughout history. Over the centuries, there have been...

The Biblical Way to Rise Above Mediocre Expectations

The Biblical Way to Rise Above Mediocre Expectations

We spend a lot of life figuring out if we “measure up,” a phrase someone coined in the mid-1800s. Even in childhood, we begin comparing ourselves with siblings and kids at school, and it never seems to stop. The problem goes back to Cain and Abel, doesn’t it? Most of...

Why Does God Want Us to Speak with Tongues?

Why speak with tongues? There are many reasons for speaking in a spiritual language. Primarily, though, the Scriptures require it. The apostle Paul commanded us, saying, “Pray in the Spirit always” (Eph. 6:18). Jude commanded it in verse 20, saying, “Pray in the Holy...

Why God’s Rebuilding is Better Than His Restoration

Why America Must Adopt the Battle Cry of Isaiah

A battle cry is used to summon armies to war. A loud, unified shout could intimidate the strongest of enemies. Confidence in battle often tilts the scale toward victory, whereas timidity, fear and cowardliness will surely lead to defeat. In these dreadful times, don’t...
