Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir Sings for Haitian Relief

E-mail Print PDF

The Grammy-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir will take to the streets Saturday, marching across the Brooklyn Bridge as they sing and wave purple flags to proclaim that Christ reigns.

The 300-member choir and 200 volunteers also will distribute free tickets to a concert Sunday to raise money to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

The purple flags represent royalty in the Bible, said choir founder Carol Cymbala. "We want to present a symbol of hope to a hopeless world," she said.

The concert, featuring music from the choir's latest CD, Declare Your Name, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Brooklyn Tabernacle.

Cymbala said the project is filled with songs of much-needed hope and encouragement. "Now is the time to spread this joy throughout the city and the world," she said.

Meanwhile, the Trinity Broadcasting Network ()TBN) announced Thursday that on Feb. 1, revenue from ticket sales at its Holy Land Experience theme park will be donated to Haitian relief efforts. The ministry's charity, Smile of a Child, has already donated $100,000 to assist earthquake victims.

"The people of Haiti have always been very dear to us, and our hearts are breaking at their suffering," said TBN co-founder Jan Crouch.

"We're offering this special day as an opportunity for individuals, families, church groups, and other organizations to come and enjoy Holy Land Experience," she added. "And the results of that day will become a gift to the wonderful people of Haiti."
